Fred’s work in Scrimshaw saw him feted by the Speaker  of the House of Commons, John Fraser at the Parliament  Buildings in Ottawa.

Fred's work in coral began as a hobby, in his teens, making jewelry. In a constant search for both knowledge and a challenge he now works in many different mediums.

Fred and Jean, his wife of 40 years, now live in Queen Charlotte City. They were living aboard their sailboat 'Hunter Point', but have finally moved ashore. Fred has broadened his boundaries and now carves in limestone, woolly mammoth ivory as well as the coral, in his private studio.

The entire Queen Charlotte Island is busting at the seams with amazing artists, wildlife, sights and character. Inspiring and calling to people of a similar state of mind, it suits him perfectly.

It takes a year or more to dry and stabilize the coral and approximately 2-3 months of full time, 15 hrs/day carving to complete a miniature sculpture.

Fred usually has several pieces on the go at once. The pieces are so unique that each is a new beginning, where inspiration strikes is where he is found.

Fred enjoys the challenge of the female form, this is seen in many of his pieces. He works in the sub conscience and tries to have the carving say something meaningful.
