Growing up on the
West Coast of BC, on a few different boats, moving involved untying & pushing off.
Open ocean for a back yard, unlike most kids had a skiff
instead of a bike. Ripping apart and reassembling an outboard motor came
much before dolls, and art was a way to spend the evening.
|
 |
There is not a time in my memory that my dad wasn't creating something.
Whether I was learning how make a moss bed, build a fire, whittle wood or draft a skiff.
Creating was just a part of life.
There was a plethora of raw material, I think my first sculpture was in soap
stone, but it may have been just soap. I discovered at some point that the art of removing raw material to make a art
form was not where I was meant to be. Add silver, add paint, these things I could and enjoyed doing. I leave the art of
uncovering what is in the raw material to find the vision, to the boys. I,
apparently, need to add to it.
|
 |
My fathers curls, maybe even his nose, but not his
ability to push his passion from a feeling to a vision for all to see. There is
still an awe when I watch him turn something mundane into a true work of art.
|
 |
With the eye for art, I love working with the silver and semi-precious
stone. There is something mystic that draws me to the stones and there potential
for healing. They hold the secrets of the past in them somehow, they can't help but do
so.
|
 |
I am personally
selecting stones from the 'wild', that once polished will be wrapped and
displayed. Some of my favorite pieces I select the stone in the raw and the
transformation from beginning to end is a pleasure to watch. I can only hope
that the wearer falls for the piece, as I do in the process.
|
 |
I will
leave the carving to my dad and husband. They both excel in their own avenues of
the same mediums. I may grab a partially done piece to complete one of my own,
but that is the advantage of being who I am. I have other artists close to
collaborate with.

Love
and peace.
