All sculptures above are By Artist Fred Watmough. Detail is astounding, even on closer appreciation.

This rare precious coral has come ashore accidentally, the coral that is used in all of the pieces on this site is not targeted or brought up on purpose. The only way the coral is accepted, by either artist, is through incidental catch. Most of this coral is thrown back into the sea, it's sharp branches will wreak havoc on a fishing net.

The coral itself is the skeleton of the creature.  Once this beautiful living being is removed from the ocean floor, the coral is killed. This beautiful jewel would then have been destroyed without recognition.

The artists & their art are returning attention to something beautiful, that would otherwise be destroyed and forgotten.

Primnoa willeyi, which is this specific gold coral, is the only species of the genus known to exist in British Columbia.

Each sculpture, ranging from 2 inches in height to over 12 inches, is intricately carved by Fred Watmough. Taking as little as 3 or months for some pieces and others will take years to be considered complete by the artist.
